Here in Maine there were a lot of clouds making for not so great moon shots (not to mention it wasn’t nearly as big as it appeared the year before)…or so I thought. It turns out I enjoyed the clouds more than the moon this year. The light and shadows made for some great shots. This is one of the 100+ shots I got that night.

Friday night I had a dinner date with my daughter. Since it was her turn to pick a restaurant she picked her favorite – In Good Company. Located in Rockland, Maine this delightful eatery is the perfect place to go for excellent food and a super relaxed atmosphere. Melody Wolfertz has a wonderful way about her kitchen (a tiny space located in the middle of the restaurant that was previously a bank vault.) I love that the food is not rushed, that you can have long conversation and when the food does arrive you savor every delicious bite.

After a few starters which included deviled eggs and baguette with butter and Parmesan I ordered the evenings special cocktail – a Mango-rita rimmed with lime and chili salt. Yowza – that was delicious!

For dinner my daughter had the Cheese Platter (with two goat cheese selections and a cheese similar to brie) with fresh baguette slices, crostini, and flax-seed crackers. I had the Lobster, Corn and Tomato Risotto.

We opted to skip dessert (Flourless Chocolate Cake or a Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee) and walk up the street for ice cream – my daughter is 10 after all. As always our meal was delightful and delicious and the chef and staff were friendly and cheerful. If you have never been, you should make a point to stop in for dinner or just a few appetizers and a glass of wine (from their fantastic selection).

Though it is a weed I suppose, I’ve always loved Queen Anne’s lace. My earliest memories of this flower are with my grandmother picking a bouquet and putting them in a clear vase with water and food coloring (as the flower took the water in the white turned the color of the coloring) . The other from Anne of Green Gables, my favorite childhood movie (other than My Fair Lady). There is a scene toward the end where Anne and Diana pick the last flowers of the season. It just always stuck with me.

My nickname for this plant is Summer’s Snowflake. The sparser of the flowers, like this one, remind me of big fat snowflakes. Do you see it too?

Peonies are one of my favorite early summer flower. My grandmother had white ones in a patch alongside the driveway where I grew up. I hated the ants that always crawled over the buds but when they burst open the ants went away and this wonderful perfume filled the air. When I started working for my boss 10 years ago I was delighted to see that she had white, dark pink and light pink peonies in her flower beds out back. The light pinks ones are by far my favorite because they look just like the roses she has next to the herb garden. (I’ll share the roses with you next week – or earlier if I just can’t wait!)
